Napoleon’s Overture

Napoleon's Overture

This is a great pre-dinner drink. The ginger gets your palate and digestive system warmed up while the cognac soothes the stress of the day away. A note about honey syrup – I like to have it on hand all the time. It basically just thins the super sticky honey into a more easily incorporated liquid. Make sure to store it in the refrigerator in a tightly sealed bottle. I’d love to give you a shelf life but I wind up making a batch every week or two because we use so much of it!

Equipment: shaker, strainer, martini glass or coupe

1½ oz ginger liqueur (I like King’s ginger)

2½ oz cognac

¾ oz fresh lemon juice

¼ oz honey syrup (2 parts honey, one part hot water, stirred to dissolve honey)

4 dashes orange bitters

sprig of mint for garnish

Combine ginger liqueur, cognac, lemon juice, honey syrup and bitters in shaker with ice and shake for 15 seconds. Strain into martini glass and garnish with spanked sprig of mint (Spank it like you mean it, this will release the oils). Cheers!
